Welcome to the OECTA Occasional Teachers Benefits Plan

IMPORTANT: Only Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) occasional teachers are eligible for this plan.

Here is some information about this plan:

Participation in the plan is mandatory for OECTA TCDSB occasional teachers (OT) who:
- Are on the school board occasional teachers roster, and
- Have worked a minimum of 50 full days in the prior school year
The benefit year runs from September 1 to August 31.
Your premiums will be paid by the TCDSB.

This plan is administered by OTIP.

Who is eligible

Eligibility for the OECTA OT Benefits Plan is based on the number of days of occasional teacher work you completed for by the TCDSB during the previous school year.

The TCDSB provides a list of all eligible teachers to OTIP in July.

If you are eligible, you will receive an email invitation from OTIP in August/September.

How to participate

Once you complete your enrolment:

Your coverage is retroactive to September 1.
Eligible claims incurred on or after September 1 can be submitted online starting on September 1.
A new benefits card will be mailed to you.

NOTE: You cannot make changes to your coverage after the enrolment period even with a life event (e.g. marriage, common-law, divorce, birth of a child, adoption).

Obtaining an eligible LTO at the start or during the school year

If you obtain an eligible LTO position/contract, you will receive an email to enrol for coverage under the OECTA Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT) Benefits Plan.

Your LTO:	Enrolment
If you obtained a 1.0 LTO and started working during the first week of school in September	You do not need to complete your enrolment in the OT plan. You will receive an enrolment email for the ELHT plan. Be sure to complete this enrolment as per the date indicated in the enrolment email. When your LTO ends, you will receive an email to enrol in the OT plan.
If you obtained a 1.0 LTO after the first week of school in September	You must complete your enrolment in the OT plan within 31 days of receiving your enrolment email. When your LTO starts, you will receive a separate enrolment email for the ELHT plan. Be sure to complete this enrolment as per the date indicated in the enrolment email. Your OT plan will be put on hold until your LTO ends. When your LTO ends, you will be put back into the OT plan automatically. You will have the same level of coverage that you selected at enrolment.
If your LTO is less than 1.0	You must complete your enrolment in the OT plan within 31 days of receiving your enrolment email. NOTE: For an LTO that is less than 1.0, staying in the OT plan is a less expensive option for you as there is no cost. If you enrol in the ELHT plan, you will pay a portion of your benefits cost as funding is pro-rated. We will keep you covered under the OT plan and will send you a communication with more information once we receive your LTO information from the board.
