Company description

Who We Are

With every job, there’s always the question of “why”. Why join a company? Why be part of their mission? Here, the why is easy. It’s because at some point, we’ve all needed someone there for us.

At the OTIP Group of Companies (OGC), we believe that something special happens when employees feel valued for the work they do, supported as the people they are, and included in the very fabric of the organization: they bring their best to work every day. And that's why we mean it when we say we put our people at the centre of everything we do. Join us as we grow our way into a future that reimagines what it means to deliver meaningful benefits support and service.

Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Manager of Group Life and Disability Claims, you’ll be responsible for making initial phone contact with members who have been off work due to medical reasons, and when applicable, facilitating and negotiating cost effective early interventions to assist a member back to work or to shorten the duration of a long term disability (LTD) claim.

The core parts of your role will be to:

  • Initiate telephone contact with members who are off work due to medical reasons to determine if early intervention services could be of assistance.
  • Establish a rapport with members as this is usually their initial contact with OTIP, and provide an overview of the OTIP early intervention program and clarification about the LTD claims application process.
  • Based on discussions with the members about the reasons they are off work, determine if any other intervention would be beneficial to their current treatment and/or assist with their potential to return to their pre-disability position. This may include a variety of different services and support varying in complexity.
  • May include communicating with service providers, attending physicians, employers and affiliate representatives to ensure an accurate understanding of member’s vocational and medical needs.
  • When appropriate, recommend appropriate services for members with external service providers, such as psychotherapy and physiotherapy. This includes defining the nature of these services and their policy limitations, clearly outlining the responsibilities of the service provider, member and insurance carrier, and communicating information and professional knowledge, as required.
  • Liaise with the Disability Analysts and Rehabilitation Consultants to facilitate treatment and/or return to work plans during the waiting period.
