The OTIP Kindness in School Award honours the most admirable qualities educators bring to their work: their genuine compassion, love for others, and steadfast commitment to their school and Francophonie community. This award shines a light on the transformative impact of an educator who, through their daily actions, fosters an inclusive and safe environment while inspiring respect, dignity, and solidarity. By recognizing a member of the Francophonie education community, who exemplifies these core values, this award celebrates the vital role of education in shaping a more just, equitable, and deeply compassionate society.
The criteria for nomination include:
Creating a safe and inclusive environment that values the French language
The member fosters a school climate where all students feel respected, accepted, and safe, regardless of their cultural background, gender, or specific needs. They also emphasize the importance of the French language, encouraging its use and inspiring pride in this cultural heritage.
Promotion of well-being
The member implements initiatives or educational practices that encourage a healthy balance between schoolwork and personal well-being. They nurture kind and respectful relationships with colleagues, parents, and community members, thereby strengthening a spirit of collaboration.
Encouraging empathy and solidarity
The member develops activities and projects that promote empathy, cooperation, respect, and solidarity among students, encouraging them to care for each other and the broader school community.
Proactive conflict and discipline management
The member handles behavior in a compassionate and constructive way, prioritizing dialogue, mediation, and restorative approaches that promote natural justice and reconciliation.
