Ontario support staff workers recognized for excellence


Waterloo ON (Sept 26, 2019)OTIP (the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan) has recognized two support staff workers for their outstanding contributions to education.  

On Tuesday, September 24, the following educators received the OTIP Support Staff Worker Award:

  • Denise Caskanette, Huron Park Secondary School, Woodstock – Educational Support category

 
  • Bill Houlden, O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Oshawa - Office Professionals, Custodial and Maintenance category


Bill is known as a caretaker on multiple levels at O’Neill CVI. While his job is to take care of the physical property, he also takes great care of the people inside of the school. His colleagues refer to him as the glue that keeps the school together. Denise is recognized as a natural problem solver who strives to help her students realize and reach their potential. She is a positive force at Huron Park Secondary School and is also a leader of its breakfast program.  

“The entire spectrum of publicly funded education relies on a diverse team of individuals. The OTIP Support Staff Worker Awards seek to recognize and acknowledge the integral part that support staff workers play in ensuring all students succeed,” says Vic Medland, CEO of OTIP.  “It gives me great pleasure to recognize these two exceptional leaders in the education community.”
